Joe Johnson’s agent, Arn Tellem, confirmed for The Huffington Post that his client and the Atlanta Hawks have agreed to terms on a six-year contract.
Johnson cannot sign the new deal until Thursday under the rules of free agency, but it is expected to be worth $120 million, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports. The exact figures will be determined when the league sets the salary cap later this week.
In a blog post for The Huffington Post, Tellem writes, “When the free-agency period kicked in, Joe made a point of talking to the Hawks first. Their owners and new coach, Larry Drew, impressed Joe with their commitment to making the team championship-caliber. In turn, Joe felt equally committed to the Hawks, his teammates and the city of Atlanta.
“For his next act, Joe plans to actively recruit other top free agents to Atlanta, a place not unlike his hometown, where he feels comfortable and appreciated.”
